"We manage a curated public asset library designed for visual effects artists and game designers, offering free, high-quality 3D assets that are easily accessible. colormass supported the expansion of this library with the material scanner, delivering scans that preserved the high standard our library is known for."
Poly Haven is a company based in South Africa, working with artists around the world. Their goal is to create a constantly growing community-funded resource of open content, for complete freedom and usability by professionals and hobbyists alike.
The Poly Haven team uses the colormass PBR scanner to capture the optical properties of various physical samples that are added to the Poly Haven library.

The Poly Haven team in order to expand their fabric library wanted to scan a set of fabrics. Initially they considered building a scanner for this purpose but after meeting colormass they decided to scan these fabrics with the colormass PBR scanner. The fabrics were chosen from a fabric manufacturer’s website, ordered, and shipped to colormass's facility in Germany. At the moment there are three colormass scanner locations worldwide - two in the US and one in Europe. For this project, the European location was deemed the most suitable. Below is a screenshot showing a portion of the fabric list scanned for this purpose.
Each material was scanned using a standardized and fully automated process designed to ensure consistency and accuracy across all scans. This process involves capturing a comprehensive set of measurement data, which is then used to generate multiple detailed texture maps (including Anisotropy and Transmission). This approach not only streamlines the workflow but also ensures that the resulting data is both high-quality and suitable for a wide range of applications in PBR workflows.
